UNIKORN: A Story of Love, Hope & Magic

Created by Team Unikorn

A graphic novel about a little girl who inherits an old horse she believes is a unicorn with a broken horn.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

HANNIBAL AD PORTOS
about 4 years ago – Tue, Mar 17, 2020 at 08:27:27 PM

Hannibal is at the Gates. A reference to the man who conquered Rome. That's what Roman parents used to tell their kids to make them behave -- it's the ancient equivalent of the bogey man is coming. It's also a message inside the 'Unicorn Guide' Mae's mother left her when she died. An 'In Case of Emergency' message to her daughter as the bad guys close in.

Hannibal Ad Portos

In some ways it feels like Hannibal is at the Gates in our world now with all the uncertainty and confusion. The world needs a lot more hope, faith and love to fight against the panic and confusion. We hope everyone is staying safe and sane. Together we will weather this and come out stronger and better prepared for the next time something like this happens.

Things are progressing well on UNIKORN despite the current uncertainty in the world. As of now our artist and colorist are working away while in quarantine in Brazil and are safe and healthy for the moment. Our letterer is finishing issue #1 of the series as we speak and we will be sending it to everyone of our backers digitally very soon as a thank you for weathering the delay and hopefully as something to lift everyone's spirits during these uncertain times.

2 page spread

Thank you all again for your support and your patience. We will keep sending more art previews as things continue to progress!

Estimated Ship Date
about 4 years ago – Sat, Feb 08, 2020 at 07:53:00 PM

Hello Backers,

As we mentioned in our last update, the script is complete and our artist is well underway. Below you can see a full two-page spread that will be in the book.

As you can see the art is great -- and very detailed, but with the added length of the book, it's going to take a lot longer than we originally projected. We have been crunching the numbers and discussing dates with our artist and it looks like we will be able to ship everything in early Q4 of this year. That is taking into effect everything that is happening right now in China (where we will print the book) which we hope gets resolved soon.

We will continue to post art and updates as things continue to progress, please let us know if you have any questions. And again, thank you all for your patience and understanding.

A UNIKORN PREVIEW!
over 4 years ago – Fri, Jan 24, 2020 at 01:52:50 AM

Happy New Year to all of our backers. We have been communicating through messages, but have not been sending frequent updates -- but we will be doing so regularly from here on out.

First of all, we are way behind schedule. There are two reasons for this:

1) we completely rewrote the script about 5-6 times -- and the book got a lot better, but also became almost twice as long. The book is now expected to be about 175 or more pages. Which is great for our backers, but makes the art take twice as long also.

2) our artist was a bit delayed due to finishing another project but is back in action, doing beautiful work and we are getting pages regularly that we will be sharing with all of you.

We are happy to now share with all of you a 12 page preview of the book in PDF form. You can download it RIGHT NOW by clicking on this link: UNIKORN BOOK (please let us know if you have any issues!)

We have a lot more exciting news to share with you in the near future as well as art updates as we move forward so will keep the updates coming!

Please feel free to email us [email protected] to let us know what you think of the pages so far!

Thank you all again for your patience and support!

Unikorn Backer Update -- !
over 4 years ago – Tue, Sep 17, 2019 at 11:25:54 PM

Dear Unikorn backers!

Apologies for the lengthy delay and long-overdue update. We've been very busy finalizing the story and preparing for logistics of delivery for this epic project!

First, we want to offer tremendous thanks for the patience and the support. No corner is being cut in crafting the best story possible - one we think every one of you will love.

The GOOD NEWS:  the completed graphic novel will not be 100-120 pages as pledged within the Kickstarter. Every finishing touch on the script is complete... and it's 175 pages of artwork. Yes, you'll be getting a book more than 55 pages longer than promised -- for the same price.

The BAD NEWS: these extra pages of art are going to make it impossible for us to finish and deliver by the holidays. Even if Joshua and I sketched out what remains as stick figures (you DON'T want that, promise) - it would still be belated.

We are so incredibly sorry for this unanticipated delay, and hope the extra value eases the disappointment of the additional wait.

In other GOOD NEWS - we have found a publisher for the book!!!

We can't disclose details just yet,  but we’re looking eagerly forward to sharing Unikorn with an even larger audience - and again, it’s YOU that made that possible. And while the book will be published -- we promise that you, our instrumental Kickstarter backers, will receive the completed graphic novel before anyone else (most likely many MONTHS before).

We will have MORE PAGES from our artist Rafael to show very soon, so expect far more regular updates as we move forward.

We’re so grateful that all of you are taking this journey with us -- and again apologies for the delay, but we expect everyone will be happy with the result!

almost 5 years ago – Fri, Jun 14, 2019 at 06:59:40 PM

SURVEYS ARE OUT - STORE IS OPEN

The BackerKit surveys for Unikorn have gone out and PRE-ORDER STORE is open. That means anyone who didn't get a chance to get the book during our campaign can still pick it up and receive in time for the holidays.

76% percent of you have completed your surveys, for the other 24% if you did not receive please message us or check your social/spam folder.

If anyone had or has ANY ISSUES at all - please reach out and email us directly at [email protected] or send a message here directly to us via Kickstarter.

ANOTHER CAMPAIGN ENDING SOON

For our adult readers who like monsters, you should check out Ordinary Monsters, a double-sided horror book of werewolves and vampires. So when you finish one story you can flip the book over for a second story with it's own cover on the "back." In total the book contains two novella length stories, two short story spin-offs, and two 5-page horror comics. The campaign can be found at www.OrdinaryMonsters.com.

Happy Father's Day to all the great fathers -- and the GREAT MOTHER'S WHO DID BOTH!
